Pontiac School District hosted its teacher-student achievement recognition event on May 18!
The Academic Achievement Awards recognition banquet champions the academic and behavioral successes of Pontiac School District students. Its aim is to spotlight the progress it is making despite budget deficits and lack of parity in education for the city.
PSD teachers Sonia Nieske, Gregory Spencer, Elizabeth Voultos and Shayla Scott received the June Fieger Teacher Incentive Award for innovation and professional excellence. The district-wide award given by the Pontiac Alumni Foundation, honors teachers who have made exceptional and longstanding contributions to our students.
More than 550 students who have consistently earned a position on the honor roll and have perfect attendance were also celebrated.
Special guests included prominent attorney Geoffrey Fieger, Detroit Pistons announcer and 105.9 KissFM radio personality John Mason and the Claflin University Concert Choir of South Carolina.
The District thanks our sponsors: Fieger Law Office, General Motors, Pontiac Alumni Foundation, Woodside Bible-Pontiac Dream Center, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., Chartwells, Unique Catering, Steve Coden Flowers, Benson Street Bakery, GEMSS and the Pontiac Board of Education.
